Common Core Curriculum course for Flag State Inspectors (Basic Level)
The beneficiaries of the SAFEMED V (11), BCSEA II (9) and IPA (5) projects participated in the EMSA Academy Common Core Curriculum (CCC) course for Flag State Inspectors (Basic Level). The online component of the course was delivered from 13 January to 25 May 2025 and was followed by a 2-day in-person session at EMSA premises in Lisbon on 3-4 June.
In total, 25 participants from 11 beneficiary countries attended the curriculum course which was aimed at individuals who already are or are intended to be nominated as flag State inspectors. With this in mind, the course focused on periodic inspections of ships aimed at verifying that the actual condition of the vessel and its crew is in conformity with the certificates it carries.
Considering the scheduling requirements of the target audience, most of the learning activities of the course were asynchronous (non-real time), thus providing the flexibility to the participants to engage in them at their own pace and convenience. However, at regular intervals, learners had the opportunity to meet and interact online with the relevant lecturers (subject matter experts). Successful completion of this course also enables the participants to enrol in the Intermediate Level course of the Flag State Inspectors’ curriculum to which it is propaedeutic.
