The Maritime Knowledge Centre (MaKCs) is the Academy’s Learning Management System based on Moodle. It is the single point of access for all learners to all curricula, short courses and part-time courses of the EMSA Academy. Leveraging the flexibility and scalability of Moodle, MaKCs enables learners to access a wide range of educational materials and resources anytime and anywhere, promoting self-paced and individualised learning. The integration of e-learning through Moodle not only supports interactive and engaging content delivery but also facilitates ongoing assessment and feedback, enhancing the overall learning experience. Additionally, e-learning platforms like Moodle foster a collaborative environment, allowing learners and facilitators to communicate easily, share knowledge, and participate in discussions regardless of their physical location. It allows for the creation and delivery of learning services, for assessment purposes, and for communication and collaboration between learners, and between learners and facilitators.

MaKCs provides integrated support for six activities required in the delivery of the Academy’s learning services: creation, organization, delivery, communication, collaboration, and assessment. Through the use of MaKCs, the EMSA Academy is enabled to:

• Deliver, track, monitor and report about curricula and courses delivered by the Agency and by other beneficiary organizations;
• Create online communication opportunities for instructor-learner and learner-learner interactions;
• Create and share learning activities, assessment tasks and evaluation surveys.
• Build collaborative learning environments and problem solving activities;
• Link external tools and applications to courses and training activities;
• Embed VRESI (Virtual Reality Environment for Ship Inspections) scenarios among course activities.
