RATIO: Ravenna Agreement Threatening Immission Operation
Italy

The project introduces a drone with thermal imaging to monitor environmental risks in a port, helping detect pollution early, track operations, and support enforcement and research.
The drone will be equipped with optical and infrared FLIR thermal sensors with thermal analysis tools, with an operational range of at least 10 km. The drone will be capable of carrying out environmental surveillance missions in the Ravenna canal port and can also operate along predetermined routes using geolocation systems and distance measurement via LIDAR laser.
The drone enables early detection of marine pollution, particularly from shipping activities and land-based discharges, based on objective elements such as thermal anomalies to identify fuel spills and other pollution sources.
By reducing the need for patrol boats and improving data collection, it offers a more efficient and sustainable way to protect port waters while building a foundation for future monitoring systems.
The project will be operational in 2027.
