SAFEMED V (EMSA) Participation to the MEDMOU committee

SAFEMED V

SAFEMED V project continues to support the Mediterranean Memorandum of Understanding (Med MoU) on Port State Control.

From 21 to 23 October the 27th Committee meeting of the Med MoU took place in Kalkara (Malta) where EMSA participated with two representatives.

Several key decisions to advance the harmonization of the PSC activities in the Mediterranean were adopted.

Among the most significant, it’s worth to mention the adoption of a new system for calculating the ship risk profile which will take into consideration the ship’s flag performance as well as the ship’s company performance and Recognised Organisation performance. This important change will be implemented with two years of transitional period and will enhance significantly the targeting of substandard ships.

Another important decision concerns the enhancement of the database which will automatically receive data disseminated by other EMSA tools to provide comprehensive information on all port calls within Med MoU ports.

The decisions stem from EMSA’s initiatives, underscoring the Agency’s key role in improving PSC inspection standards and promoting greater harmonization across the Mediterranean Sea basin.
