EMSA Highlights 2024
2024 was a busy and productive year at EMSA. We worked across a wide range of projects, supporting the European Commission and the Member States in areas like maritime safety, sustainability, surveillance, simplification and digitalisation, security, technical assistance, capacity building, and European coastguard cooperation.
In the area of sustainability, we supported maritime stakeholders on the extension of the EU Emissions Trading System and on the provisions of FuelEU Maritime, as well as continuing to study the potential of different alternative fuels.

Also in 2024, to support Member State administrations and industry in the sustainable transition, we published studies on the safety of hydrogen and ammonia as fuel for ships. Meanwhile, our ROV service continued to grow and develop, supporting Member States in accident investigation and other tasks.
Throughout 2024, we delivered more than 16 thousand Earth Observation images to Member State administrations and EU institutions and continued our regional approach to RPAS missions.
We added more users and organisations to our integrated maritime services and launched new versions of the enhanced maritime picture interfaces, including through the IMS app, with new functionalities and data.
We developed and launched EMSA’s first diversity and inclusion policy as well as a new initiative to increase well-being at work. And we had more than ten thousand participants in our EMSA events, workshops, and the events we hosted, both online and here in Lisbon!
