How maritime authorities can use CISE?

Through CISE, different Maritime Operations Centres (MOCs) can gather additional information from many authorities across the EU/EEA and across all maritime sectors, therefore increasing the efficiency and coordination of maritime operations addressing a wide range of maritime security threats and challenges (e.g., drug trafficking, illegal fishing, accidents at sea, etc.).

To give an example, as highlighted by the revised EU Maritime Security Strategy (EUMSS) with its Action Plan (adopted on 24 October 2023), CISE has been recognised as a tool that, by enhancing the cross sector and cross border information exchange, may help protect critical maritime infrastructures in the seas around Europe, which was declared as one of the key EU priorities.

For more information about the operational use of CISE please see the operational specifications section: https://emsa.europa.eu/operational-specifications.html.
