What does EMSA do in the area of combating piracy?

Among others, here are a few actions tackled to combating piracy:

• The LRIT system has provided information to EUNAVFOR for monitoring the coast of Somalia.
• The PIRASAT pilot project with the European Space Agency enables stakeholders to identify possible non-cooperative targets.
• Although not linked to piracy per se, there is an exchange of Vessel Traffic Systems (VTS) data (radar) with the participation of Member States in the West Mediterranean Basin to enhance security.
