On 4 February 2025, the European Maritime Safety Agency (EMSA) and the European Environment Agency (EEA) will launch the second edition of the European Maritime Transport Environmental Report (EMTER) at a high-level conference in EMSA’s Lisbon headquarters.

EMTER provides a fully up to date and comprehensive overview of the environmental impact of the maritime transport sector in the EU and a factual analysis of the environmental pressures exerted by it. This latest edition not only evaluates progress achieved in recent years but also highlights the interconnectedness of maritime activities with broader ecological, economic, and social systems.

It underscores the importance of implementing a wide range of environmental practices to mitigate the sector’s environmental footprint while reinforcing maritime transport as a cornerstone of European trade and connectivity.

Following the report presentation, policymakers, industry and civil society representatives, and other maritime stakeholders will gather to discuss key findings and explore solutions to address the environmental impacts of maritime transport in the EU.
