If there is a major accidental oil spill at sea will CleanSeaNet be used to monitor the spill?

Yes. If there is an oil pollution emergency at sea, CleanSeaNet Coastal States users can request additional support from EMSA for:

  • Additional monitoring over the accident area and for tracking the evolution of the spill
  • Support to pollution response operations
  • Support to clean-up operations

In case of large accidental spills, particularly if the spill already reached the coast very high-resolution optical images can be used, to better identify areas impacted by the oil spill.
