Training on Implementation & Compliance of the IMO’s Ballast Water Management Convention

Following the conclusions of the 12th CNTA meeting in 2017, the European Maritime Safety Agency (EMSA) in co-operation with the Hellenic Coast Guard headquarters organised in Piraeus from 10 to 11 September a training seminar on the implementation and compliance with the requirements of the International Convention for the control and management of ballast and sediment from ships, 2004 (BWM 2004).
This training was provided by representatives of the European Maritime Safety Agency (EMSA) and was attended by officers from Central Port Authorities and Directorates of Hellenic Coast Guard. The purpose of the Workshop was to provide detailed information to the HCG staff regarding the framework for Compliance Monitoring and Enforcement of the BWM Convention, an update on Ballast Water Treatment Technology, the PSC view of control, monitoring and enforcement of the BWM Convention, sampling and type approval of BWM systems. The course also included exercises on enforcement, PSC, as well as on type approval.
