Training for the Enlargement countries on the III Code, in collaboration with the IMO

On 14-15 November 2018, EMSA hosted the Training on the Implementation of the IMO Instruments Implementation (III) Code, in collaboration with the International Maritime Organization (IMO). The training was delivered as an activity under EMSA’s project for the Enlargement countries. 10 participants from Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro and Turkey successfully completed the 16 hours course.

The overall objective of the event was to provide an overall understanding on the implementation of the III Code with regard to flag, port and coastal state activities, and to prepare the representatives of the beneficiary countries for future audits under the IMO Member State Audit Scheme (IMSAS).

The lectures, two experienced IMSAS auditors from the maritime administrations of Sweden and Cyprus, provided participants an in-depth analysis of key aspects of the Code. In detail, the participants deepened their knowledge on Flag, Port and Coastal State’s obligations and on the Strategy of Maritime Administration, Records of Communication and Information, Evaluation and Review, Delegation of Authority, among other areas. Participants also received background information and latest development of the IMSAS.
