SAFEMED IV Seminar on Civil Liability in the Maritime Domain

In the framework of the EU funded SAFEMED IV project, EMSA has undertaken the organization a seminar on Civil Liability in the Maritime Domain. The seminar was hosted at EMSA premises, in Lisbon, from 12 to 13 December 2018. Overall, 13 participants from Algeria, Egypt, Israel, Jordan, Morocco, Palestine and Tunisia have successfully completed the training course. The seminar was delivered in collaboration with the International Oil Pollution Compensation fund (IOPC) and the International Group of P&I Clubs.

 

The training encompassed theoretical presentations, case studies and practical exercise on the topic of Civil Liability in the Maritime Domain. The participants walked through an overview of the main International and European legal instruments on liability and compensation as well as the mechanisms through which the P&I Clubs and the IOPC fund operate.  In detail, topics such as wrecks removal, ship-source pollution, clean-up claims, settlement of claims, environmental damages were covered, amongst other.

 

All participants showed interest in the topics discussed and continuously engaged with the lecturers to request further information and real-life cases
