Sustainable waterborne transport toolbox meetings

Sustainable waterborne transport toolbox meetings

In the context of the implementation of the measures identified in the Sustainable Waterborne Transport Toolbox, EMSA acts – on behalf of the European Commission - as technical secretariat.

As such EMSA organised and hosted a number of meetings specifically set up to facilitate dialogue between the European Commission, EU Member States and the wider maritime industry regarding compliance with stricter emission limits (notably for sulphur) in the EU. These meetings focussed mainly on the potential of alternative compliance methods such as LNG and scrubbers. The main objective of these meetings was to clearly identify all barriers and obstacles – regulatory, technical, operational – which may reduce the full potential of these alternative methods. As a follow-up to those meetings, the European Commission and EMSA are currently working out specific actions more in depth.
